The sturdy Onyx longstones are ideal for deep massages on large muscle areas. The massage stones can either be held in the hand like a pencil and gently guided or enclosed in a fist if large muscle areas (e.g. on the back, legs) or very pronounced muscle areas (e.g. in athletes) are to be massaged.
Onyx is used in gemstone massage when self-confidence and assertiveness need to be strengthened.

The name Onyx is derived from the Greek word "onyx" for "nail"; this name, which has been in use for many centuries, presumably refers to the surface of the polished stone, which is reminiscent of shiny fingernails. Spellings such as onix or onyk are therefore incorrect.
